Monitoring Citrix Applications 
NetScout Performance Management Solutions meet both network and application managers’ need for ensuring optimal performance of applications in Citrix deployments by making it possible for IT staff to easily:

  • Monitor and track each published Citrix-based application individually, simplifying performance management and troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate Citrix utilization by recognizing and understanding existing network patterns and identifying Citrix traffic flows and applications running over the network.
  • Maximize the performance of Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server implementations by analyzing passive and active application response time metrics for individual Citrix applications and pinpointing application degradations for faster resolution.

The Challenges of Monitoring Citrix Applications 
Many corporate and government IT organizations are migrating their enterprise-wide business applications, such as Microsoft Office, to Citrix to reduce operational costs and enhance network security. Because a Citrix deployment can "mask" the actual application traffic, obtaining application response time and performance information on Citrix applications in context with other networked applications presents daunting challenges for many IT organizations.

Providing Visibility into Citrix Application Flows  
NetScout Systems applies its CDM™ technology to identify and monitor Citrix® MetaFrame® Presentation Server traffic flows and Citrix-hosted applications and maps them to the powerful real-time and historical analysis views and reports available in nGenius® Performance Manager. This approach enables nGenius Probes, when strategically placed throughout the organization’s network, to collect and deliver rich, actionable information on the utilization of each published Citrix application, such as those in the Microsoft® Office Suite or custom applications unique to a particular enterprise. Network professionals can then proactively manage faults, monitor individual Citrix-based applications, rapidly troubleshoot problems, and dynamically plan network bandwidth changes.

Because the NetScout Solution can monitor each published Citrix application individually, it provides:

  • Rapid recognition and tracking of Citrix traffic flows network-wide for understanding the resources consumed by this solution.
  • Visibility into the applications hosted by Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Servers, pinpointing most- and least-utilized Citrix-based applications and the resulting client/server conversations.
  • The ability to monitor, evaluate and alarm on passive and active response time metrics for Citrix-based applications, supplying actionable details to quickly identify and resolve performance degradations.
