The Opportunity
Radio Access Network (RAN) engineering teams at a Tier 1 US mobile operator lacked insight into coverage and activities for their subscribers using 5G Voice over New Radio (VoNR) and their interaction with the existing 4G LTE network through Evolved Packet System (EPS) Fallback.
The Details
After careful analysis of this operator’s existing RAN deployment, the NETSCOUT® team determined that a monitoring strategy with our Docker-based RAN Solution in a virtual environment, including our TrueCall® application, was needed to support specific 5G New Radio (NR) network interface protocols (NR RRC, NGAP, XnAP, E1AP, and F1AP) to provide the necessary visibility. Also, by using our TrueCall application, the team did not have to rely on drive testing. The team implemented a robust monitoring architecture to deliver vital key performance indicators (KPIs) in support of accessibility, retainability, mobility, coverage, and utilization for consistent monitoring to assure performance.
The Results
NETSCOUT’s Solution Provides:
- Visibility into coverage and performance for both 4G/5G voice services.
- New established KPIs for consistent monitoring of RAN 5G stand alone (SA) services for accessibility, retainability, mobility, coverage, and utilization.
- Precise reporting on cells, subscribers, and devices through our TrueCall application, which minimizes reliance on drive testing activities and subsequently reduced OPEX.
